Paeonia Rockii Introduction
Paeonia rockii, also called Rockii tree peony, or Gansu Mudan, is a flagship of China’s tree peony family. Its most defining feature is the striking purple-red, deep purple, or black-purple spots/patches at each petal’s base.
Unlike other tree peonies, it stands out with thick petals, rich fragrance, tall vigorous growth, strong adaptability, good disease/pest resistance, and a long lifespan. It also has high medicinal value and is widely used in peony gardens, villa landscaping, and agricultural ecological parks.
Characteristics of Paeonia Rockii
Tall Vigorous Growth and Long Lifespan
Know as the "giant of the peony kingdom". It can grow to a height of 2-4 meters and a crown spread of 3-4 meters. As a long-lived tree species, Rockii tree peonies over 100 years old will renew themselves even if left to grow naturally, as long as there is no human interference.
Large Blooms with Thick Petals and Rich Fragrance
Rokii tree peonies can reach a diameter of 25cm, and their fragrance is equivalent to that of over 10 other varieties combined.
High resistance to adverse conditions
Thrives with intensive cultivation in semi-arid regions (annual precipitation: 300–600mm). Naturally cold-hardy, surviving -40℃ winters without extra protection. Grows well in both poor/fertile soil, tolerating pH 5–8.2. Boasts good disease and pest resistance.
Good Disease and Pest Resistance, Easy to Maintain
The thick cuticle of the leaves, the highly lignified stems, and the peony phenolic compounds secreted by the root system of the Rockii tree peony naturally inhibit certain fungi and pests. The Rockii tree peony is notable for its resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew and aphids, which are prevalent in other peony varieties.
Applications
Rockii tree peonies are used for courtyard decoration, peony garden construction, villa landscape design, garden landscaping, and agricultural eco-park construction. In addition, they can be used as potted plants and cut flowers, and are highly ornamental.
